It may seem like our cozy north Boulder ‘hood is too far off the beaten path to boast any serious retail, but not so. As developments take shape and Boulderites scout housing in our area, shops follow. Here are a few standouts to keep in mind in 2017 (with more coming, of course):

Fabulous Finds Fashion Outlet — Recently launched next to Page Two Coffee off Lookout Road, this Longmont-based chain is a consignment store boasting over 10,000 consignors. Brands in stock range from Ann Taylor to Coldwater Creek, Banana Republic, True Religion, lululemon, and more. The store is open six days a week, opening at 10am and closing most days at 6:30pm (Saturdays at 5pm). Learn more at fabfindsconsign.com or on Facebook.

Karlequin Game Knight — Opening in 2015, this gamer’s paradise is located in the Gunbarrel Shopping Center, also off Lookout. With room for figure-based roleplaying sessions in-store, as well as a slew of board games on offer and private gaming nooks, this is a one-of-a-kind destination not only in Gunbarrel, but in Boulder. Learn more about recent inventory at karliquin.com or get the scoop on events on Facebook.

Sunflower Kids Art Studio — We’ve all enjoyed the paint-with-wine phenom as adults, but what about kids? At Sunflower, teachers help up-and-coming artists develop an appreciation for different painting styles and media (acrylic, watercolor, pencil, etc.). Classes can be a serious introduction to art, or simply fun events for birthdays or celebrations. Gift cards are available, and classes are offered after-school throughout the week. Learn more about rates and schedules at artsunflower.com or on Facebook.

Gunbarrel Liquor — A prominent feature of the strip mall adjacent to King Soopers, this neighborhood liquor stop is the only one of its kind in the area. For its size, the selection is impressive: domestic and international wines, local craft beers and spirits, and periodic tastings are all part of the business. If you get a chance, be sure to talk to the owners—they’re loyal Gunbarrelites and are happy to field requests for certain kinds of liquor. Learn more on their Facebook page.

Green Dream — It’s not for everyone, but this discreet dispensary off Lookout and Gunpark has been our neighbor for quite a while. Offering both medical and recreational marijuana that is hand-grown, Green Dream is a proud award-winning cannabis institution with over 80 strains alongside a full compliment of concentrates, edibles, and accessories. Members get exclusive 50-percent-off deals monthly, so it might be worth considering for the cannabis connoisseur. Learn more at greendreamcannabis.com or on Facebook.

ArcticSource1 — Tucked away on the far side of the Gunbarrel Shopping Center is this purveyor of high-quality fish oils, proteins, and powders. Omega-3s are the name of the game here, and ArcticSource1 takes them seriously as health supplements and as natural ingredients. For more information about their products, arcticsource1.com.
